Born in 1963, Tan Haur is a Singaporean who has been a moving force in digital photography, product & graphic design, digital painting and underwater art making. Graduated from Australian National University (Master of Visual Arts) with high distinction and major in digital imaging & photography, before committed himself as a fulltime art advisor & artist, he worked as a chief curator cum manager for epSITE Digital Imaging Academy & Gallery (2000 -2005). This was a career that allowed Tan Haur to pursue his interest as well as create digital art awareness in the regional context. In year 2007, Tan Haur spearheaded a pioneer digital art program supported by the Singapore Ministry of Arts - CCS in organizing workshops and seminars for the public on digital imaging & painting, photograph editing, restoring and archiving techniques. He has traveled to many countries to create art high up at the summit as well as deep down in the ocean environment, and received numerous distinctive arts awards and art contribution medals from USA, Australia, Japan and Singapore.

Tan Haur was the Creative Project Consultant from 1987 to 2000, and his job scope included undertaking consultancy work for digital art and graphics-related jobs worldwide. His years as the Creative Project Consultant saw him supervising assignments covering photography, digital imaging, loyalty programs, graphic design, advertising & promotions, exhibition & interior design, product design, visual identity programs and corporate branding programs. He has successfully merged his passion and talent together with his career in the art, digital imaging & creative industries and has proved not just to be a talented artist, but also a valuable member of the digital art community.

Tan Haur’s love for digital art, photography, painting and underwater sketching has motivated him to share this new genre with other enthusiast. He maintains a personal blog where he shares his work and passion.

For ASEAN and national projects, Tan Haur had represented Singapore for the ASEAN COCI 'Art for All' 2008 in Thailand organized by the Thai secretariat of the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information to promote effective cooperation in the fields of culture and information for the purpose of enhancing mutual understanding and solidarity among the peoples of ASEAN as well as in furthering regional development.   

Furthermore, Tan Haur was also one of the two mentors, along with Chng Seok Tin to create visual art/design for the Singapore National Day Parade 2008 goodie bag. Through a printmaking and digital art workshop mentorship by Mr. Tan Haur and Ms. Chng Seok Tin, students from Very Special Arts and School of the Arts were tasked to create the visual artwork for the 2008 National Day Parade goodie bag to be given to the spectators. This is also one of Tan's art and design projects that have closely integrated Fine Art, Graphic Design and Product Design in a symbolic manner. He will be looking into more cross-disciplinary projects in the very near future.

Oneness 万象归一

“Oneness” symbolizes the quality of unity. The core axis of our conscious and subconscious mind, it harnesses the past and the present; the good and the bad; the found and the lost. And it brings all existence into one, there is no starting point and there is no ending point, simply like the stream flow into the river and sea, then evaporated into the sky, rain onto the earth and flow back to the stream again.Human race is part of the cosmos, we are different on the circumference, but we are one at the center. And to know this oneness is enlightenment.

Artist’s BIO:
Tan Haur 陈豪 (b. 1963) a Singaporean photographer and a multi disciplinary artist, is well known for his multifaceted work in the art of digital imaging, photography, painting and underwater sketching. He graduated from the Australian National University (Master of Visual Arts) with a high distinction in digital imaging and photography in 2007. Tan draws inspiration from the natural environment and nurtures an interest in Buddhist philosophy and practice, humanity and its many facets and artificial intelligence in the making of art. To gain new perspectives, Tan immerses himself into different environments, experiencing the differences, and experimenting different mediums and technologies in art creation and interaction, continuously in search of the relationship between Nature, Culture, Art, Media and Technology. He emphasizes strongly in the process of creating art and the journey of experiencing the subject matter; which are equally important as the final presentation. Tan Haur has received numerous distinctive arts awards and art contribution medals from USA, Australia, Japan and Singapore, including the Merit Award, from the National Museum of Singapore in 2009, the Community Art Program Award from Ministry of Information, Communications and Arts, Singapore in 2007, First Prize Art Award from Burgmann Mixed Media Art Competition, Australia in 2006, World Wide Web Award of Excellence, Art Space 2000 International, USA in 2005, the President’s Award (Seiko Epson Japan) and the Public Art Business Excellency Award/ epSITE Digital Imaging Academy and Gallery in 2004.

昨早参加了国庆礼包（NDP Fun Pack 2008) 媒体发表会。今年的国庆礼包对我和先生（陈豪）来说很特别，意义深重。礼包上色彩灿烂的图像，是庄心珍（Chng Seok Tin, printmking artist) 和陈豪（Tan Haur, digital artist) 合作指导学生的合成艺术作品。一组来自VSA 特殊才艺协会和SOTA新加坡艺术学院的学生，以心珍指导的传统绘画技法，绘出国庆主体元素，再结合上陈豪指导的数码绘画艺术，创作了一幅集体艺术作品。这是一个全新的尝试，传统与现代艺术的融合，表现在设计师的新颖包装上，效果真是天衣无缝。

陈豪自澳洲回国，就不遗余力，推广数码绘画艺术(Digital Art)。在2007年4月得到Creative CommunitySingapore 的支持，成立了Digital Art For All 。陈豪希望通过多方面的艺术活动，能够让更多新加坡人，认识数码艺术，提升对绘画创作的热爱。电脑已不再只是家里的一台游戏机，而是增强创意（Creativity)，丰富人生色彩的工具。

Park Hotel Group日前举办了酒店大厅的创意布置设计比赛，三位评审都是莱佛士设计学院带领着创意设计的总舵主，omy于是就向他们讨教了几个圣诞家居布置的小贴士。

问：今年流行什么颜色与设计风格？

RL：传统的红绿色是永不过时的，它已经是个象征性的代表。无论你喜欢传统元素或时髦风格，建议你慢慢一件一件去建立你的整体布置。

TH：金橙色、天空蓝较为瞩目，人们也开始喜欢选用鲜艳的糖果颜色，走普普艺术风格。

AE：红绿和金色当道，一些本地的色彩如蓝色和粉红色也能创出有趣的组合。

问：进行布置要注意什么？

RL：宠物和家人的安全是第一考量，能够持久的环保装饰更是不错。

TH：空间大小、室内户外以及天花板的距离都是重要考量。

AE：任何让人感觉舒服的就行！新加坡过圣诞和在北半球的西方国家过圣诞相当不同，新加坡人比较常趁着佳节往外跑，所以就比较不重视家中的圣诞布置，但圣诞装饰还是应该给予人们一个美好的感觉

问：进行布置，最不应该的是什么？

RL：最好不要花太多钱在布置上，一点点简单的装饰也能制造令人难忘的效果。

AE、TH：不要使用会给家人和宠物带来危险，或可能造成火患的材料。

问：应该怎么布置才不会过火、不切实际？

RL、AE：记住“少就是多”这句箴言准没错！用抢眼的装饰来制造视觉震撼。

问：新加坡适合选用哪些材料来制作圣诞装饰？

TH：纸、塑料、干木材、尼龙和丝绸都非常适合新加坡的气候，可用作装饰材料。

AE：这里的塑料圣诞树很实用，但如果要以假乱真，更可以加入几滴松树香精。你也可以考虑选用再循环材料，或者甚至能吃的装饰品，全凭你的想象力！如果你要为家中增添多些花草树木，不妨考虑用插花装饰或盆栽。

Synopsis: This fixture creates a typical experience for visitors to feel the compact space and tighter gap between flats built by Housing Development Board nowadays in Singapore mainland. The semi-circular spheres made by clear acrylic material are to provide a viewing window within a confined space to simulate operator’s control room with viewing screen inside a military submarine or tanker; this is to create a visual tension between participants who are inside the four spheres. The internal space of the cubicles was painted with blue tone wavy- camouflage pattern to symbolize our island country is surrounded by ocean. At the centre portion of the cubicle tunnel, it was furnished with a typical HDB bomb shelter ventilation metal plate to create a sense of safety precaution as well as insecurity of a nation..

There’s such a sociological term “cocooning” to describe one of our current major living trend and lifestyle in the modern society. And it has been a while that I’ve made visual comparison between the heavy looking man made structures with little birds flying freely in the sky. You may sense the different vibration in two complete different worlds, as to say, with such a great contrast in their visual statement, it makes sense for us to ask these questions: -

Beside surrounded by walls, are there any other barriers that we created in our own life?

With more walls building up, are we getting lesser time to interact with others or the nature?

Physical walls are just symbolic kind of things, how about theinvisible walls in our own thoughts?

What we should do is to sit quietly at a corner of the Café, sipping a cup of house brewed coffee and watch the pigeons catching fun and turning to our table for food. Probably is a luxury moment in our fast pace life by not doing anything but simply watching and searching for what we really want to be and being deep inside at this peaceful moment of “now”.

This project reflects Tan Haur's passion in black & white + Color fine art photography, focusing into straight street photography and mirroring fractions of strong visual statement of the local subject matters by placing two photos into one frame. Avoiding complicated postproduction in stitching and blending photos, majority of the photos in pairs are simply place side by side to shed light on his ideas and artistic statement. This new series of artwork should not be simply view as an artist's photo dialogue experienced through in December 2007, Beijing, but very much an in depth expression of "Zen" in its daily life context.

When Blood turned Green

(A journey into underwater art)

The times when an accident acts as a catalyst leading onto a string of discoveries, a breakthrough, best illustrated by the story of the apple falling upon Newton, is a common enough phenomenon. I was the happy benefactor of one such accident. On one of my early diving trips near Phi Phi Island off the coast of Thailand, I cut my palm upon a coral. It was the pain that made me realized that I had sustained a cut, and when I looked at my palm to assess the damage, I was mesmerized to see green blood oozing out from the wound. All divers know that red light does not travel far into water and the greater the depth the more it has been absorbed. Yet the shock that came along with this perception of green blood overwhelmed me. It rocked me, and the pain notwithstanding, I was transcended into a new level of awareness. Suddenly the beauty, color and the magnificence of the submarine environment took on a fresh dimension, it screamed out to me. There and then I was moved to record, translate and share the glories of the underwater world. But how does one do this?

还是新的城市化建设？更发达的交通网络？
全球同化，也许已吞没了许多人类原始的美丽。
这是一项值得人类慎重探讨的课题。
