Tan Haur: “I have just completed a body of work recently, it is named as 《Black Mountain New Series》 reflecting cross cultural environment, global climate changes awareness and human perception issues; this series of artwork is a result of integrating paintings, drawings and photo images. I appreciate if you could share your opinion, thoughts and suggestions on this body of work :-)

Cocoon

There’s such a sociological term “cocooning” to describe one of our current major living trends and lifestyle in modern society. And it has been a while that I’ve made a visual comparison between the heavy-looking man-made structures with little birds flying freely in the sky. You may sense the different vibration in two completely different worlds, as to say, with such a great contrast in their vision statement, it makes sense for us to ask these questions:

Besides surrounded by walls, are there any other barriers that we created in our own life?
With more walls building up, are we getting lesser time to interact with others or nature?
Physical walls are just symbolic kinds of things, how about the invisible walls in our own thoughts?

What we could do is sit quietly at a corner of the Café, sipping a cup of house-brewed coffee, and watch the pigeons catching fun and turning to our table for food. Is probably a luxury moment in our fast-paced life by not doing anything but simply watching and searching for what we really want to be and being deep inside at this peaceful moment of “now”.
